The drive was conducted following the directives of ward officer Rajesh Bankar. “We conduct such drives on alternate days to curtail people from putting up illegal hoardings. We found that most of the banners were put up by restaurants and cafés on streetlights. Among the larger hoardings, we have taken action against some of the local corporators for their flexes and hoardings and also fined them. The drive has been undertaken under the Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2003,” said Bankar.

Harish Kushalkar, deputy superintendent of the department, said, “We had been receiving complaints about illegal hoardings creating a nuisance and hence, conducted this drive on Wednesday, where all banners, hoardings and flexes which had no permissions, were pulled off. We have also registered a first information report (FIR) against the perpetrators so that they will not deface public property again.”
