Foul smell spreading to the locality and people alerting the police led to a four-day decomposed body of 17-year-old girl and her murderer.
One Feroz Shiekh, 33, a vegetable vendor, was arrested by the Pimpri police on Thursday for killing and burying the body of the teenage girl under an empty vegetable stand in the market. The incident took place on Sunday and the body was found on Thursday, the police said.
The body was taken to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital in Pimpri after it was recovered around 3:30 pm, the police said. According to senior police inspector VV Mugalikar, the victim was involved in an illicit relationship with the suspect.
“As she had left home telling her parents that she was going to Lonvala for a few days, they did not approach the police with a missing person’s report,” Mugalikar said.
Acting on a tip-off that a murder has taken place in the late hours of Sunday and that the body was disposed off in the market area itself, the police questioned Shiekh who fell sick and was taken to a private hospital.
The police will decide on further course of action after the doctors decide a date of discharge for him, police said.
Police believe that the suspect seems to have been fed up of the girl’s demands and strangled her to death after calling her to the vegetable stand. A case under Section 302 for murder will be registered against the man, the police said.
