Lok Sabha elections 2019: Hopes of Pune politicos soar for Kasba assembly
Kasba is considered as the BJP’s bastion as the seat has always remained with the saffron party. As Bapat held the position for the last 25 years, the second generation leaders did not get a chance from the constituency.
Hopes of new aspirants looking to contest from the Kasba assembly constituency grew on Saturday after the announcement of Girish Bapat, district guardian minister’s candidature from the Pune Lok Sabha seat for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Bapat has been representing the Kasba constituency since the last five terms (25 years).
Mukta Tilak, city mayor, is also hoping that the party considers her for Kasba assembly constituency. Tilak said that she would not like to comment on the issue, but indirectly suggested that every politician wants promotion in his/her political career.
Along with Tilak, BJP leaders Hemant Rasane, Ganesh Bidkar and Bapat’s daughter-in-law, Swarda Bapat, are being considered for the Kasba assembly constituency.

All aspirants have started preparations for the assembly elections and are working in the constituency. These aspirants - Tilak, Bidkar and Rasne - are corporators in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Meanwhile, other aspirants did not wish to make a comment, but accepted that now since Bapat would be not available for the assembly constituency, the party will have to give a chance to other aspirants.
