A man was booked by city police for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman under the false promise of marriage. The man was identified as Krushna Maruti Kate, a resident of Satara, according to police.
Kate allegedly called the 20-year-old woman to a lodge in Katraj and established physical relationship with her, according to the complaint. The complainant also claimed to have been physically assaulted by the man who also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about them.
The two got in touch in the beginning of the year and maintained contact ever since, according to police. The man acquired her phone number and texted her on WhatsApp to woo her, according to her complaint. After gaining her trust, the man allegedly called her to a lodge in Katraj, where he assaulted her, according to police. The police are trying to ascertain how the two came in contact.
A case under Section 376 and 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Kate at Bharti Vidyapeeth police station based on the woman's complaint. Police sub inspector (PSI) AR Patil is investigating the case.The police have not yet arrested Kate. The police are on a lookout for the man, according to PSI Patil.
"We are investigating the personal details of the accused. We are trying to zero in on his address," PSI Patil said.
