PMC approve funds to convert 13 unused PMPML buses into mobile public toilets

The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), on Tuesday, approved funds to the tune of Rs 25.53 lakh for Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) to convert 13 unused buses into mobile public toilets. Yogesh Mulik, standing committee chairman, confirmed the same.
The civic body decided to make use of the unused buses that PMPML was about to scrap. The PMC has decided to keep these mobile toilets at specific locations across the city. The PMC had set a target of 100 mobiletoilets for the city.
Meanwhile, the standing committee approved Rs 49 lakh to distribute free sanitary napkins to girl students between the age group of 11 to 19 years. These free napkins would be distributed in PMC-run schools.
Mulik said that around 25,000 girls will benefit from this scheme. Every month, eight sanitary napkins would be given to the students.
The women and child development committee has taken the lead to execute this initiative in PMC-run schools.
