Kiran Gitte, chief executive officer of PMRDA, said that it was a long-pending demand to provide an alternate approach road to Hinjewadi IT park to bring down traffic congestion, and number of vehicles on other existing roads.
Due to land acquisition-related issues, it was not possible to sort out the issue earlier. But as PMRDA has decided to execute the town planning scheme in the area, it will be able to get land free of cost for road and other amenities, expediting the road work processes, added Gitte.
PMRDA has identified a 36-metre stretch for erecting the 2.5km road, which will connect Hinjewadi, via Mhalunge, and Sus. PMRDA is expected to spend approximately Rs 8 crore for erecting the road.
Gitte said that the actual road work will begin after monsoon and added that the existing road will be repaired in the meantime.
Residents of the road had also appealed the zilla parishad and Maharashtra industrial development corporation to repair the road, but as they were reluctant to take up the work, PMRDA decided to undertake the initiative.
