Pune-based NGO Vivek Vyaspeeth to stage a play on farmers’ plight on May 19

The play has been organised to create awareness about farmers’ suicide and problems faced by widows

Vivek Vyaspeeth, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), in association with Adhyaan Bharati has organised a play ‘Terava’ on May 19, at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, Swargate. The play ‘Terava’ refers to the rituals which are performed after the cremation of human bodies.

The play has been organised to create awareness about farmers’ suicide and problems faced by widows.

Anita Dikshit, chairman of Vivek Vyaspeeth, said, “People residing in urban areas are unaware of farmers’ issues. Their family members have to face many challenges to meet their daily needs. So, focusing on this, we have organised the play to make people aware of the issue.”

“Due to drought many farmers cannot repay loans and commit suicide. Widows and daughters of such farmers will perform in the play,” said Dikshit.
