Nashik cyclist Jaspal Virdi dies of heart attack while on cycle ride

President of Nashik Cyclists Foundation, Jaspal Singh Virdi (38) passed away due to a heart attack while cycling in Nashik on Saturday morning (6 am). He is survived by his wife and two kids along with his father and grandfather.
Virdi was on a ride from Nashik to Igatpuri and back as part of the Nashik Ranndours Milers event organised by the Nashik Cyclists Foundation. While cycling, Virdi started feeling uneasy and fell on his shoulder. His fellow riders immediately called a vehicle and rushed him to a private hospital in Pathardi Phata.However, he breathed his last in the emergency room. The doctors claim that the heart attack was not related to the cycling activity.
Virdi was a cycling enthusiast and played a key role in the promotion of cycling in Nashik. He took initiative in organising the Nashik Pandharpur Cycle Wari, cycle rides for specially able people, ride with visually impaired and to raise awareness about women empowerment. He also took part in the Delhi Mumbai cycle expedition.
He also contributed to the ‘Nurture the talent’ programme that encouraged cyclists from Nashik and other parts of the state to participate in national and international tournaments.
His demise has been a big blow for the cycling community in Nashik.
