Road rage at Pune: three accused found to have violent past

The three men, who have been arrested for the murder of a call centre employee on Friday, have been found to be convicted of violent crimes in the past.

The three accused have been identified as Dharmesh Shamkant Patil, Yashwant alias Anil Lakshman Gaikwad, 20, residents of Milindnagar, Pimpri and Swapnil Sanjay Kamble, 25 a resident of Adarshnagar, Pimpri. While Gaikwad was found guilty of murder when he was 17, the other two have cases of attempted murder registered against both of them respectively, in the past two-three years,said Ranganath Unde, police inspector of crime, Pimpri police station, who is investigating the case. The trio were also booked under Section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in 2018.
The deceased has been identified as Manjeet Motilal Prasad, 22, a second year student of Bachelor in Computer Science (BCS) from Pune. He worked in a United Kingdom-based tourism firm called WNS.
“The police were able to tract down the three, to a room near the scene of crime. The accused were found sleeping, while the door was locked from the outside. The arrested men have been remanded to police custody until March 21 and are currently in lock-up at Pimpri police station” said inspector Unde.

At 2 am on Friday night, the trio stopped a company bus, at Deluxe chowk, Pimpri.“The men were on their way home, when the bus overtook them. They stopped the bus and hit the driver as well as Prasad, who was seated in the passenger seat. In the resultant fight, they killed Prasad with a blade that Patil was carrying. The complaint was filed by the driver Mohan Sambhaji Devkatte, 25, a resident of Kharadi,” added PI unde.
A case against the three men has been registered under Sections 302,341,143,147,148,149 of the IPC along with Section 37(1)135 of the Maharashtra Police Act and Section 4(25) of Arms Act at Pimpri police station.
