Three helmetless riders die in accident at Pune’s Wadki

Speeding truck collides head-on with two motorbikes, two persons sustain injuries; driver held

In a helmetless riding accident, three persons were killed and two sustained severe injuries when a speeding truck collided head on with two motorbikes at Wadki on Hadapsar-Saswad road, the police said on Saturday.

According to the police, the incident took place on Friday evening near Hotel Grilling when a truck driver on the way to Hadapsar from Saswad lost control of the wheels and collided with the two motorcycles.

Three people died on the spot and two were injured, who are currently critical. The injured are recuperating in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Saswad.

The deceased have been identified as Someshwar Shankar Modak (44), a resident of Wadki; Jalinder Bapu Gaikwad (18), and Navnath Raghunath Khilare (20), both residents of Dive in Purandar tehsil of the district.

The injured have been identified as Modak’s wife Rupali (39) and daughter Sanika (9). According to Loni Kalbhor police, the Modaks and Gaikwad and Khilare were on their way to Wadki, when they were hit by the truck.

Police inspector Suraj Bandgar and his staff rushed to the spot and aided the victims in getting relief at the earliest. Meanwhile, the police have taken the driver into custody and charged him for rash and negligent driving. The driver’s name could not be confirmed till late Saturday evening.
