Violation of model code of conduct: Pune registers highest number of cases on cVIGIL app in state
So far, 135 cases have been registered in Pune district till last Friday, of which action has been taken in 122 cases by officials concerned
Pune has registered the highest number of violations of the model code of conduct in the state, via the cVIGIL app.
The Election Commission of India announced the polling schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha elections on March 10, after which the model code of conduct came into effect.
So far, 135 cases have been registered in Pune district till last Friday, of which action has been taken in 122 cases by officials concerned. Thirteen cases have been dropped on the grounds of being invalid. “A maximum number of cases have been registered in Pune, however, the district administration is fast in resolving them,” said Suresh Jadhav, additional collector of Pune district and the coordinator of cVIGIL cell.
According to Jadhav, 122 cases registered with the cVIGIL app were to do with hoardings being put up by political parties at various locations in the city.
“After we receive the complaints, our teams visit the site, and have either removed the hoardings or have covered the content that violates the model code of conduct, with the black tape,” he said.
MODUS OPERANDI
Explaining the modus operandi of official action in response to the complaints on cVIGIL app, Jadhav said, “Once we receive the complaint, we are obligated to address it within 15 minutes through our flying squads. The flying squads have been formed for each of the 21 assembly constituencies. Every assembly constituency has three members from the collectorate in the flying squad.” “The squads which also include police officials take immediate actions if any report related to violation is registered,” he said.The Election Commission of India (ECI) launched the app, c-VIGIL, ahead of announcing the 2019 Lok Sabha election schedule.
