Three people, including a woman, were arrested by the police for the murder of a man named Sagar Arun Thorat (28) near Karachi Chowk in Pimpri on Wednesday morning . The three accused were identified as Archana Jalindar Nikam, Prem Randive and Ganesh Rokade.
At around 11:30 pm on Tuesday night, the three attacked Thorat with sharp weapons and inflicted wounds on his face, neck and head, causing his death. They were traced to Lonavala and were arrested within five hours of the murder, said senior police inspector VV Mugalikar.
All the four people involved in the case have previous criminal records in their name, said police inspector, crime, Masaji Kale of the Pimpri police station.
Nikam had been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 in the past. Her brother and Rokade also have criminal records in their name, said PI Kale. He also claimed that Nikam's husband was serving jail time in another case.
According to the police, a previous love affair between Nikam and Thorat was the reason behind the murder. Thorat and Nikam were involved with each other before Thorat got married to another man over nine years ago. However, even after his marriage, he pursued Nikam in order to continue their relations. Prem Randive had beaten up Thorat for the same issue in the past as well.
