Residents of about 10 villages of Sirsa district have taken a stance to oppose the Congress in the coming elections as a a mark of protest against lack of amenities.

Resident of 10 villages gathered at Panihari village for a 'Bijli Mahapanchayat' on Sunday and decided to 'boycott' the Congress party. They said that their issues of hiked electricity bills and electronic meters had not been resolved. They also demanded to dismiss the FIR against Bijli Andolan Sangharsh Committee members.

Residents of Baruwali, Musahibwala, Bharokhan, Panihari, Farwai, Nejadela Kalan, Ranga, Nagoki, Jhonpda and Farwai Kalan participated in the mahapanchayat. The villagers decided if the police arrest the Bijli Sangarsh Committee members then they would not allow the Congress leaders enter their villages.

Roshan Suchan, Sangarsh Committee convener, said, "From the last eight months we have been protesting peacefully against hiked electricity bills, electronic power meters. A false FIR has been lodged against Sangharsh Committee leaders."

"Today was the first Bijli Mahapanchayat. We will cover rest of the villages gradually till April 10," C Bhola, spokesperson of the Sangharsh Committee, said.

Villagers Mange Ram Panihari, Leela Ram and Ramkishan warned that in case their electricity connections were cut, they would not pay the electricity bills.
