14 govt schools in Ludhiana get grant to set up labs

To conduct practicals at 14 Government Senior Secondary Schools (GSSS) in the district which started vocational courses last year, funds of Rs 14.58 lakh is released by the Centre to set up laboratories with equipment.

The Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) office has received the grants this week and the same will the transferred in the schools accounts.

The 14 schools, include Ayali Khurd, Giddarwindi, Hans Kalan,Mangat, Sahnewal (girls), Bhaini Baringa, Bhundri, Dehlon, Dhamot, Dhandra, Ikolaha, Isru, Kum Kalan and Lalori Kalan.

As per the directions of ministry of human resource and development, these courses were started in government schools last year.

The aim is to give students option to choose from a variety of vocational courses including security, IT, beauty and wellness, retail, agriculture and health care.

A teacher, at condition of anonymity, said, “By starting these courses in government schools, students who don’t want to opt humanities in Class 11 can do these courses. We have several students in our school who opted for vocational course beauty and wellness.”

District education officer secondary Paramjit Kaur Chahal said, “With this grant, the schools can get equipment to run these courses effectively.”
