5 killed in separate accidents in Moga

Five people, including an unidentified woman, were killed and five seriously injured in different accidents in Moga district in the past 24 hours.

Five people, including an unidentified woman, were killed and five seriously injured in different accidents in Moga district in the past 24 hours.

According to the police, a speeding Innova car on its way from Bhagta Bhai side, ran over a motorcycle near Jeeta Singh Wala village under Bagahpurana sub-division, killing the two riders on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Kuldeep Singh (30) and Sukhdev Singh (35), residents of Jai Singh Wala village. "Both the deceased were painters and returning from Gumti Kalan village in Bathinda district after finishing their work. A case has been registered at the Baghapurana police station against car driver Paramjeet Singh, a resident of Sukhanand village, who left the car and fled from the spot," said a police official.

In another road accident, Balwinder Singh (55), a resident of Sadhanwala Basti in Moga, died when a speeding private bus ran him over near the focal point area on the Moga-Kotkapura state highway in Moga.

Satnam Singh, assistant sub inspector incharge of the focal point police post, said the bus driver fled the scene, leaving behind the bus. "Police have registered a case against driver Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Jhoran village in Muktsar district," said the ASI.

A speeding truck crushed a motorcycle rider near Budh Singh Wala village near Baghapurana early Tuesday morning. Ram Lobheya, assistant sub inspector of Baghapurana police station, said the motorcycle rider, who has been identified as Jagsir Singh, a resident of Gumti village under Rampura Phul subdivision, was killed in the accident while his aide Gurpal Singh was seriously injured. He was rushed to the Dr Mathura Dass Civil Hospital, Moga, from where he was referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana.

Police said that after the postmortem, the bodies were handed over to the family members.
In another accident, three people were injured near Karyal village under Dharamkot sub-division when a three wheeler collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite side.

The injured have been identified as Jasvir Singh, Jagdeep Singh and Mandeep Singh, all from Data village. They were rushed to the Moga civil hospital from where they were referred to the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, due to their critical condition.

In another accident, a 30-year-old woman was hit by a train near Akalsar Chowk on the Moga-Ferozepur railway track on Tuesday afternoon while she was trying to cross the railway track. The police officials said the body could not be identified and would be kept at the Moga civil hospital for identification.
