55 fined for flouting ban on tobacco

In a much-appreciated move, teams of civil defence fined 55 persons and collected around Rs 9,500 for various violations of Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act on Friday.

In a much-appreciated move, teams of civil defence fined 55 persons and collected around Rs 9,500 for various violations of Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act on Friday.

Deputy commissioner GK Singh said that members of civil defence divided themselves into teams and inspected kiosks situated the around bus stand, the railway station and outside the Government Rajindra Medical College and Hospital.

He added that around 2,500 packets of gutka and other tobacco ingredients, which were totally banned by the government. He said that the government had collected Rs 65,000 from 547 challans issued across the district.

He said members of civil defense have collected income of Rs 65,000 slapping fine on around 547 persons across district. He lauded the work done by chief warden of the civil defence, KS Sekhon, and his teams.
