After 7-year-old dies of heat stroke, school timings in Punjab changed

The decision come in the wake of Punjab child rights commission seeking a change in timings following the death of a seven-year-old student due to a heat stroke.

Punjab education minister Aruna Chaudhary on Friday ordered a change in timings of all schools of the state, keeping in view the soaring temperatures in the state.

Timings of all primary schools have been changed to 7:30 am-12 noon while middle, high and senior secondary schools will function from 7:30 am-12:30 pm (Representative image)

In a statement on Friday, Chaudhary said timings of all primary schools have been changed to 7:30 am-12 noon while middle, high and senior secondary schools will function from 7:30 am - 12:30 pm. The present timings of all schools were from 8 am to 2 pm.

She also said timings will be effective from May 20. Summer holidays will be take place between June 1 and June 30.

The decision come in the wake of Punjab child rights commission seeking a change in timings following the death of a seven-year-old student due to a heat stroke as he was exiting his school. Following the commission’s demand, Aruna Chaudhary had said she will look into the matter.
