On the occasion, Air Commodore VSM JS Dhamun laid wreaths on the war memorial.

While talking to newsmen, he claimed that the air force had always remained on the fore front during natural calamities, while in the recent past the air force managed a airlift 500 tonnes of material to the flood-hit Kashmir Valley.

He said nearly 1,500 people stranded in the Valley were airlifted to the Pathankot Air Force Station in 75 sorties.

Later Group leader Rajnish Sharma said a marathon was being organised on October 12, in which residents of Pathankot district had also been invited for participation.

He declared that a prize of `20,000 would be given away to the winner, while `10,000 and `5,000 would be given to the first and second runner-ups, respectively.
