After becoming the first Indian woman athlete to bag a silver medal in 20-km walk event at Asian Games, Khushbir Kaur has qualified for the 2016 RIO Olympics.
Khushbir, who is currently training in Portugal, was in news recently after her alma mater Khalsa College for Women, as per a promise, failed to get a house constructed for her and her family and she were forced to live in a shed. However, the college authorities later released a fund of `5 lakh for the athlete.
Meanwhile, Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal also announced a flat for the athlete.
Hindustan Times was the first to highlight the plight of Khushbir’s family. The Amritsar Development Authority (ADA), which has identified an accommodation for her, will be giving a facelift to the house soon.
Notably, the college, which drew flak for not getting the house constructed for her, had clarified that things didn’t work out due to coordination issues with the family.
