Hours after the Bathinda police claimed to have killed two gangsters, Manna and Pardeep, a fan page of slain gangster Shera Khuban Aale on social media site, Facebook, termed the encounter as fake. Over 6,000 people follow the page.

“Interestingly, if the gangsters shot at the police, then why is it that not a single policeman was injured. Also, why do all encounters take place in Bathinda, where gangsters are killed, unlike at other places in Punjab, where police arrest gangsters,” the post questions.

The post goes on to claim that Davinder Bambiha (who was shot in an encounter in Bathinda in 2016) and Shera Khuban (who was killed in 2012 by the police) were also victims of fake encounters.

Assuming a warning note, the post mentions that police officers in Bathinda were staging fake encounters to get easy promotions, but ‘they must remember that a government job does not stay for life’. The officers’ turn to pay for the encounters will come, the post adds.

Bathinda SSP Naveen Singla said, “The Facebook post has no authenticity. We have followed proper procedure and ordered a magisterial inquiry as mandated by guidelines of the Supreme Court.”
