Bathinda: Three purse snatchers nabbed
The police have arrested three people involved in incidents of snatching in and around the city and seized some mobile phones and women's purses from them.
The arrested have been identified as Harjit Singh, Arjun Sharma and Jasprit Singh, all residents of Bathinda. As many as eight mobile phones and four purses have been recovered from them.
Senior superintendent of police Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti said that the accused used to snatch the items while riding motorcycles. Police would be interrogating them to know their involvement in incidents of crimes.
Former Mumbai zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau Sameer Wankhede, who was given a clean chit by the caste scrutiny committee over the fake caste certificate probe against Wankhede, said all documents submitted by him for getting a government job are valid and added that he and his father belong to the scheduled caste Mahar community.
A portion of a five-storey residential complex in Daighar collapsed and the building dangerously tilted to one side late on Friday, prompting the authorities to evacuate the residents and vacate adjoining buildings. Police said two residents of the building, Jayanta Apartments, sustained minor injuries in the incident that took place at 11.50pm on Friday. The ground floor of the building has 15 shops. Eight families lived on the other floors, many of them vacant.
Foreign minister S. Jaishankar was on Friday seen enjoying local delicacies during his Bengaluru visit. The union minister visited the city's famous VV Puran food street, also called 'Thindi Beedi'. Prominent Youtuber and food blogger Kripal Amanna accompanied the minister and explained to him about the local food. The minister tasted local desserts like Holige, gudbud and tried some scrumptious ice-cream flavours. Karnataka minister Ashwathnarayan was present at VV Puram along with the union minister.
Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai hoisted the national flag at his residence on Saturday, as a part of Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. As the country is going to mark 75th Independence Day, the celebrations of 'Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav' have begun in the state. Both teaching and non-teaching staff were directed to hoist the national flag in their residences on 75th Independence Day.
A 25-year-old hotel management graduate was chased and stabbed to death by a group of at least four men in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar on Thursday night. After the murder of 25-year-old Mayank Panwar, a resident of Shahpur Jat in south Delhi, his family members suspected that he may have been killed for resisting a snatching attempt by the alleged assailants.
