Anad Foundation chairman and former AAP leader Bhai Baldeep Singh on Tuesday announced to return the Parman Patra in protest against the Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) failure to speak up against the recent attacks on the minorities across the country.

In his letter to Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal, Bhai Baldeep, a renowned “kirtan maryada” exponent, said he had decided to return his award to protest “the lack of appropriate response to warn off those who have been perpetrating crimes against humanity”. He was conferred the award in 2011 for his contribution to classical music and “Gurbani sangeet”.
He said the SAD — a political outfit representing a minority community which is an alliance partner in the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre — had failed to raise the sensitive issue that could destroy the nation’s social fabric.
