A day after Seerat Kaur was charged with her husband Ekam Dhillon’s murder, her 11-year-old son’s statement in the chargesheet reveals that she was preparing for the fatal showdown before her husband returned home on March 18.
She allegedly shot and later bundled his body in a suitcase the next day.
The police chargesheet filed recently in court has son’s statement where he said he saw his mother taking out pistol from her room’s chest, much before his father’s arrival. It indicates that the gruesome crime maybe premeditated, something which the police have failed to investigate so far.
In his statement, 11-year-old also suspected the presence of ‘someone else’ inside the house after sound of gunshot. He even stated that the voice of ‘outsider’ appeared to be that of Seerat’s male friend, who visited their house many a time in absence of his father. But he could not come out of his room since it was locked from outside.
The reference of Seerat’s male friend and her mother has also come out in the police statement of other crime witnesses. There seems to be chinks in the police investigation since there is no second arrest in this case, even as Seerat’s mother and brother are co-accused.
When contacted, SSP Kuldeep Chahal declined to comment and said the matter is subjudice now.
In his testimony, the son stated that when the mother was taking out the pistol, “I asked her will you do firing like on Diwali. She was suddenly angry at me and sent me to other room. Sometime later, father came.” On being asked whether he heard any sound at night, he replied that when he and her sister were in bed, he suddenly heard father’s shouts and then came sound of fire shots.
“I came near my room door and asked what has happened. Mother replied don’t come out. I again asked why Papa had shouted, no reply came. I tried to come out of the room, it was found locked from outside,” the boy stated in his statement.
On being asked whether there was someone else present at that time, the son stated, “I don’t know but it appeared the voice of an uncle (Seerat’s friend) or he maybe someone else.”
He also revealed in his statement that his mother’s two relatives came to their house in morning after the maid’s arrival and he had seen them doing house’s cleanliness. Later, mother handed them some black colour phone and a packet. The boy also stated that he asked about Papa from his mother next morning who told him that father has gone to grandfather’s home.
