Bookie held, Rs 16 lakh seized

He has been identified as Ashish Sood of Durgapuri in Haibowal. He was nabbed from Focal Point and Rs 16 lakh, one laptop and two mobile phones were recovered from his possession. His car was also confiscated.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Parveen Randev, the investigation officer, said the arrest came after a tip-off. “He confessed that he used to operate from his car, which he kept moving to evade police. He has been involved in accepting bets on international cricket matches for long,” said the ASI.

A case under section 420 of the IPC and 13-A, 3, 67 of Gambling Act has been registered against him.

According to the police, the data recovered from Sood's laptop is being worked upon to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the racket. He was produced before the court on Sunday, which sent him to judicial remand.
