CCTV cameras would be installed at all prominent places in the city at a cost of Rs 100 crore by March next year, making it the safest city, claimed chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Inderbir Singh Bularia here on Saturday.

In a statement, Bularia said the cameras would be used to monitor the flow of traffic and to keep an eye on anti-social activities. All activities going on in the streets and bazaar, including in and around the Golden Temple, would be supervised from the control room, and information promptly passed on to the police personnel concerned.

Claiming that the Punjab government was developing the city in a "well-planned" manner as per the master plan and it would soon be "one of the most beautiful and developed cities" of the country, the CPS said the city was visited by lakhs of people from all over the world daily as it had immense historic and religious importance.

Bularia claimed that the government was committed to providing top facilities and security, and added that police personnel had been made more active and responsive after the introduction of the commissionerate system in the city, and the deployment of female police officials.
