Charitable trust, sports academy floated in memory of Palahi
A charitable trust and a sports academy, named after eminent educationist Jagat Singh Palahi, on Saturday, were floated by philanthropic NRIs and locals who were associated with him, for promoting education and sports in rural areas.

Both the bodies were floated at a shardhanjali samaroh held in Guru Nanak College for paying tributes to Palahi who had died on November 1 in Canada after a prolonged illness.
The trust bodies will be called 'Jagat Singh Palahi Charitable Trust' and 'Jagat Singh Palahi Memorial Sports Academy, Phagwara' and Palahi's Canada-based son Jagtar Singh Bains will be the founder chairman of these bodies.
On behalf of Bains family, Jagtar announced Rs 11 lakh for the trust and `1 lakh for the academy and Palahi village educational institutions.
Other NRIs Lashkar Singh Sall, Tarsem Singh Gill, Rashpal Singh Ranipur, Rajinder Singh Shera, Karnail Singh Mann, Lehmber Singh Ghagg, two NRI bodies Phagwara Welfare Society Canada and Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Association UK, locals Jatinderpal Singh Palahi, Avtar Ringh Ramewal, Jarnail Singh Wahid, Avtar Singh Nijjar, also contributed for the trust and the academy. Total Rs 30 lakh were raised on the spot with these donations.
Markfed chairman Jarnail Singh Wahid, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee members Sarwan Singh Kullar and Karnail Singh Panjoli, Jatinderpal Singh Palahi, Jagtar Singh Bains and Jaswant Singh Gandam paid tributes to Palahi.
