Meanwhile, Amritsar on Wednesday registered a high of 22.1 with a departure of three degrees from normal and a low of 4.6 with a departure of two degrees from the normal. The meteorological department has predicted partly cloudy sky with thundery development till January 9.
This is the fourth death due to the prevailing cold reported this winter season. Three deaths were reported in November and December last year. The deaths are being attributed to the reluctance of the mendicants to stay at the ‘rain basera’ (shelter) opened by the district administration as it is far from their place of operation.
A rain basera has also been opened at the Amritsar railway station with a view to providing shelter to passengers, who arrive in the city at night and have no place to stay especially in view of the winter season.
