Senior Congress leader Karam Singh Chauhan and former Punjab Congress secretary Sukhjit Singh Neena Chahal, in a joint statement issued here, demanded Maluka's resignation for his alleged role in the scam.

They alleged, "Maluka has embezzled the amount meant for the poor schoolchildren under the SSA grant. The Central Bureau of Investigation should be asked to investigate the matter and Maluka should resign on moral grounds. The ruling party in Punjab has been at the centre of a number of scams with its ministers either being imprisoned or found involved in them. Maluka is the fifth minister found involved in a scam after the SAD-BJP alliance came into power again."
