Cop arrested on charge of corruption

Police sub-inspector Nishan Singh was on Wednesday arrested on a charge of corruption. At the cantonment police station, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered on the complaint of Harbhej Singh, a man from Bhikhiwind in Tarn Taran district.

Police sub-inspector Nishan Singh was on Wednesday arrested on a charge of corruption. At the cantonment police station, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered on the complaint of Harbhej Singh, a man from Bhikhiwind in Tarn Taran district.

The complainant had alleged that on July 26 his parent and he (all non-resident Indians) were coming to the city from the airport when the accused was posted at the Civil Lines Chowk check post, checking vehicles.

He allegedly took a laptop computer and a mobile phone from the family. The complainant alleged that on July 24, when his sister had come from Hong Kong with her family, the same officer had taken Rs 1,000 from them to let the car pass.

Randhir Singh, station house officer of the cantonment police station, confirmed that the accused had been arrested on a charge of corruption.
