Talking to reporters, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) (north) Balkar Singh said, “Following the instructions of police commissioner Jatinder Aulkah, the city police are making serious efforts to curb the menace.

Now, we are also inviting those who want to leave the addiction voluntarily.”

“On Saturday, we got six such persons, who were into addiction and approached police for help. We have sent all of them to deaddiction centre at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where they will be treated at a nominal fee. We will also offer help.”

On a question, the ACP said, “We want more and more youngsters to come forward and leave drugs forever. We also appeal to NGOs to come forward and assist police in this endeavour.”
