The woman alleged that her husband slapped her first, following which the SHO started beating her up in the presence of other cops, who bolted the room from inside and joined the SHO in assaulting her.

Riya Dhir of Dhandhra Road said she married Vishant Dhir of Azad Nagar on October 12 last. She alleged that after two months of marriage, Vishant and her parents started harassing her for dowry, and she eventually filed a police complaint.

Riya said on Thursday, the women police station SHO summoned her to join the investigation, adding that as she entered the SHO’s room, her husband slapped her, and instead of taking action against him, the SHO and other cops beat her up.

Refuting the allegations, sub-inspector Kulwant Kaur said a case of domestic violence was already registered against Vishant and his mother.

She claimed that Riya and her kin entered into a brawl with Vishant at the police station and also misbehaved with the cops who tried to intervene. Meanwhile, Riya fainted and when they tried to rush her to the hospital, she jumped out of the police vehicle.

Riya has been admitted to civil hospital and is yet to file a police complaint in the matter.
