Drug addict stabs wife to death; tries to end life

Bhikiwind SHO Shiv Dayal Singh said on Monday that the accused, Shammi, thrashed his wife, Veena (20), after she objected to his habit of consuming drugs. When she persisted with her protest, he stabbed her with a sharp-edged weapon, which killed her on the spot.
According to the SHO, the accused then attempted to commit suicide by repeatedly banging his head against the wall. However, the family immediately got hold of him and took him to the civil hospital at Patti, where he was admitted.
After recording the statements of the family members and neighbours, the police registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 309 (attempt to suicide) of the IPC against Shammi. He was placed under arrest at the hospital.
