Drug peddler gets 10 years' jail term

District and sessions judge on Wednesday awarded 10-year-jail term to Pawan Kumar, a resident of Kukkar Majra, Mandi Gobindgarh, in connection with peddling habit-forming drugs.

District and sessions judge on Wednesday awarded 10-year-jail term to Pawan Kumar, a resident of Kukkar Majra, Mandi Gobindgarh, in connection with peddling habit-forming drugs.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him, while stating, in case of default of the payment Pawan would be liable for an additional imprisonment of six months.

The Mandi Gobindgarh police had arrested Pawan with habit-forming drugs on October 18, 2009.
Following the recovery of a cache of psychotropic drugs a case was registered against the accused under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
