A 31-year-old software engineer was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her house in Kharar, following which SAS Nagar police booked her husband, who too is a software engineer, and his parents who are retired educationists.
Police said Heenu Arora, employed with a software company in SAS Nagar, was found dead on Sunday afternoon in the bathroom of her house. Married to Pankaj in 2010, Heenu was a mother to 2-year-old daughter.
In his police statement, her husband Pankaj Kakkar said that Heenu did not open the bathroom door despite repeated knocks. He claimed that he then broke open the door to find her lying unconscious inside. Pankaj said that she was rushed to a private hospital where she was declared brought dead.
On the other hand, Heenu's mother Laveen Chauraya, a resident of Bathinda, claimed in her police complaint that Heenu's husband and in-laws were harassing her for dowry.
Laveen Chauraya, at present staying with her another daughter in Sector 69, told police that she received a call about her daughter's death. “Pankaj and his parents had been troubling my daughter for dowry. The family wanted to buy property in Abohar and thus were forcing my daughter to arrange for money for the land,” she alleged.
On her statement, police booked Pankaj and his parents Trilok Chand and Nirmala Rani, who retired as headmaster and headmistress, respectively.
Police said that the cause of death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem.
