Earlier, Chaudhry, his son Pawan Chaudhry and others were booked under attempt to murder charges. As per the incident, on June 18, Chaudhry with others had allegedly pelted bricks and stones during a land dispute, injuring two cops including constable Rajesh Kumar and constable Narendra Kumar at Putlighar in Amritsar.

Constable Rajesh Kumar had suffered serious head and chest injuries in a bid to stop the clash between the two groups. Narendra had also suffered minor injuries. An ex-servicement Rajesh was admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition. The cop was discharged twice after signs of recovery but was again admitted earlier this month.

Police said, “The doctors had cured the head injury but the chest injury proved fatal resulting in his death.” The police have now booked Surinder Chaudhry and others for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Sources however claimed that police arrested one co-accused in the case on Wednesday.

“The murder sections have been added in the case. Our teams are raiding at the possible hideouts of the absconding accused ,” said additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Lakhbir Singh.

The Case

The former Congress councillor allegedly was involved in a property dispute with one Karaj Singh of Kiran Colony in Putlighar.

Chaudhry claimed the possession of a residential plot which Karaj stated that he bought around 20 years ago.As per information, when Karaj started the construction work on the plot, Surinder allegedly reached there with his aides. After exchanging heated arguments, the accused started pelting stones and bricks at the opposite party.

Police averred that when the patrolling team reached the spot, they were too attacked during the clash.Meanwhile the deceased was cremated at Chawinda devi village in Amritsar district on Wednesday. The police had earlier booked Chaudhry, his son Pawan, Raj Kumar, Sanjiv and Sushil Kumar and Saurav Mahajan under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC and Arms Act. “We will now rearrest the accused who got bail earlier, since the murder section has been added now”, said a senior police officer.
