The victim has been identified as Harnaib Singh, a resident of Kokhar Kalan. Chhajali police station in-charge Bhupinder Singh said Harnaib's son Brijinder Singh had filed a complaint with the police alleging that Darbara Singh, Kartara Singh and Karnail Singh shot dead his father when he was readying his fields for paddy transplantation.

He said Darbara Singh, Kartara Singh and Gurlal Singh, who were cousins of the victims, were demanding their share in Harnaib's 1.2-acre agriculture land. When Harnaib refused to oblige them, they shot him
and fled, the complainant alleged.

The police have registered the case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC, but have not made any arrest, the officer said.
