GNDU appoints Dhillon as new registrar

Noted economist Prof Sharanjit Singh Dhillon was on Tuesday appointed the registrar of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU).
The syndicate approved the appointment of Dhillon. He replaces Dr Inderjit Singh, who will complete his tenure on August 14.
Dr Dhillon is professor and head, Punjab School of Economics, at GNDU. He will give up this charge after he assumes the office of registrar on August 14. He is the second faculty member from the Punjab School of Economics to occupy the important post, the first being Dr RS Bawa, who has since retired.
Prof Dhillon did his graduation, post-graduation and doctorate from Punjab School of Economics of the university. He has more than 30 years of teaching and research experience. He has also served as professor in-charge, finance and development, of the university.
He is a member of the Indian Economic Association, Indian Society of Labour Economics, Indian Society for Agricultural Development and Policy, Indian Political Economy Association, and Indian Society of Agriculture Economics. He is also editor of Indian Journal of Quantitative Economics and PSE Economic Analyst being published by the university.
He has remained president of Punjab Federation of College and University Teachers Organisations and Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers' Association.
Recently, he completed the Punjab government project, 'Suicides among farmers and agricultural labourers due to indebtedness' as co-principal investigator and submitted the report to the state government. The project has been further extended by the state government for the period 2010-13 with Prof Dhillon as principal investigator.
