Defaulters include the Public Health wing of the Public Works Department (PWD) and the B&R wing of PWD.
Others government departments and a number of government schools also figure on the list.

MC officials claimed that notices had been issued to defaulters to clear their pending payments and that cases were being tackled in batches of 100, with 50 cases having being tackled so far.

"A majority of government departments and educational institutions feature among the list of defaulters. Notices have been issued to them to clear their dues at the earliest," said Jaswinder Singh, SE, operations and maintenance, who also holds the charge of additional commissioner, MC.

He added that the MC aimed at recovering more than 75% of its Water Supply arrears this year.

"We are going about it in a phased manner, taking up 100 defaulters at a time," he said.
