Aapna Punjab Party (APP) president Sucha Singh Chhotepur on Sunday said he would decide within a few days to whom his party will extend its support in the upcoming Gurdaspur Lok Sabha byelection to be held on October 11.

A former state unit chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) who fought the 2014 LS poll here on the party’s ticket, Chhotepur had fallen out with the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP just before this year’s assembly polls over an alleged sting operation that “caught him accepting bribe”. The party, after performing way below its expectations in the assembly polls, has subsequently given enough hints that it would want to have him back in its fold.

In the 2014 contest, he got 1.73 lakh votes, or nearly 17% of the vote share, to finish third behind BJP’s Vinod Khanna and Congress candidate Partap Singh Bajwa.

This time, the AAP has fielded Maj Gen Suresh Khajuria (retd) in the bypoll against Congress state unit chief Sunil Jakhar and BJP’s moneybags candidate Swaran Salaria.

Chhotepur said he would hold small meetings with the rank and file of his party (APP) in the parliamentary constituency before taking the final decision. Party's Majha zone in-charge Gurinder Singh Bajwa, Inderjit Singh Randhawa, Deepinder Singh Randhawa,Sarwan Singh, Gurnam Singh, Amandeep Singh Gill, Sanjay Salaria and others were present.
