A day after a 52-year-old woman and her two grandchildren were found brutally murdered at her home in Kishore Nagar on Tajpur road in Ludhiana, inconsolable mothers of the two children demanded capital punishment for the killer.

Sukhwinder Kaur and Tajinder Kaur, mothers of children Mandeep Kaur alias Khushi, 8, and Hritik Singh, 6, respectively were seen holding books, water bottles, tiffin boxes and other belongings of their children. Other women were trying to console them.

Tajinder Kaur said the police should bring the murderer in front of her and she wants to see him hanging for killing his 6-year-old son.

Sukhwinder Kaur with a chocked voice said after her separation from her husband, Mandeep was a reason for her to live. “With Mandeep taken away from me forever, how will I survive without her,” she said.

The accused Rajwinder Singh, of Amritsar, who had recently shifted to a rented accommodation in Kishore Nagar from Amritsar, was a frequent visitor to his cousin’s house Gurwinder Kaur. Rajwinder had come here to find a job, but could not find one. The police found a blood-soaked hammer from the spot from which the victims were bludgeoned to death.

Rajwinder Singh, cousin of the deceased woman, has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused was seen locking the house’s door from outside in the afternoon.

Rajveer Singh Boparai, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, city-4) said as per the investigation Rajwinder murdered Gurwinder Kaur and her two grandchildren for cash and jewellery.

The ADCP said several police teams have been formed to arrest the accused and the motive will be clear after that.

On Saturday, member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu and the member of legislative assembly Sanjay Talwar visited the aggrieved family.

MP Ravneet Singh Bittu assured the family that the accused will be arrested soon.

Woman fought to save grandchildren

According to police, the crime scene suggested that Gurwinder Kaur fought with the accused to save her grandchildren. The body of the woman was found over the bodies of the children, which suggests she had tried to save the children by shielding them in her arms.

The police are also trying to know that if the accused brought the hammer, used to kill the three, or was it already at the home.

DGP directs police chief to nab accused at the earliest
