Higher reaches experiences fresh snow, mercury plummets in HP

Cold wave intensified across the Himachal Pradesh as higher altitude areas received mild snowfall while lower and middle hills were lashed by mild rain. Met department had predicted dry weather till January 26 but the nature proved weatherman wrong as several parts of the state received light rain and snowfall started at higher reaches on Monday evening.

Cold wave intensified across the Himachal Pradesh as higher altitude areas received mild snowfall while lower and middle hills were lashed by mild rain.

Met department had predicted dry weather till January 26 but the nature proved weatherman wrong as several parts of the state received light rain and snowfall started at higher reaches on Monday evening.

Shimla was engulfed by thick fog. On the Monday evening, state capital town also received mild rainfall. Nearest tourist place Kufri, Narkanda also received mild snowfall in last 24 hours. As per the Met centre Shimla, around 5cm of snowfall was recorded in Narkanda while Kharapthar, Manali also received 4 cm of snowfall.

Kinnaur, Kullu, Sirmaur, Shimla and Lahaul-Spiti. Keylong in Lahaul and spiti received 2 cm of fresh snowfall while Kalpa in Kinnaur received 13 cm of snow.

Due to fresh spell of snow and rain, mercury plummeted across the state by several notches. Power supply was also disrupted in higher altitude areas of Kinnaur while several parts of middle hills of Kotkhai, Kullu, Banjar, Anni, Bhawanagar, Manali reeled under cold wave.

However, fresh spell of snowfall has not disrupted the vehicular traffic in the state so far.

Keylong recorded minimum temperature at -8.4 degree Celsius followed by Kalpa, Manali and Shimla at -6.2, -1.6 and -1.7 degree Celsius respectively.
