Interim Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Dhian Singh Mand, others sent to jail

Organisers of the controversial ‘Sarbat Khalsa’, including interim Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Dian Singh Mand, United Akal Dal head Mohkam Singh, and Sikh leader Baljit Singh Daduwal were on Thursday sent to jail. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjeet Singh Mann has been released.

Organisers of the controversial ‘Sarbat Khalsa’, including interim Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Dhian Singh Mand, United Akal Dal head Mohkam Singh, and Sikh leader Baljit Singh Daduwal were on Thursday sent to jail. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjeet Singh Mann has been released.

The police had detained Dian Singh Mand on Wednesday evening near Hall Gate after he led a march along with his supporters in areas around the Golden Temple.

Shop-owners in Hall Gate and Ram Bagh shut their outlets and people left the area in a hurry as Mand’s supporters marched through the streets on Wednesday evening.
