Development: The major issue this elections is the overall development of the area as the constituency lacks proper roads, particularly connecting to villages, and in border regions.

Sand mining: Sand mining along the Ravi river, which has destroyed the ecology of the area, is another major issue. 'Goonda tax' collected allegedly by 'musclemen' of Akali leaders has led to this commodity selling at higher rates.

Drugs: Drug addiction, like in other parts os Punjab, has gradually been on the rise in the area.

Industry and employment: There is no employment-oriented industry in the region. The revival of the Batala industry is also likely to become a poll issue.
