KU prof gets award for DNA-related research

Kurukshetra University chemistry professor Ranjana Aggarwal on Thursday collected the 2014 Dr Basudev Banerjee Memorial Award of Indian Chemical Society, Kolkata, at the 51th annual Convention of Chemists on her campus.

Kurukshetra University chemistry professor Ranjana Aggarwal on Thursday collected the 2014 Dr Basudev Banerjee Memorial Award of Indian Chemical Society, Kolkata, at the 51th annual Convention of Chemists on her campus.

Eminent scientists such as Goverdhan Mehta, Harjit Singh, and SV Kesar have earlier received this award. Ranjana Aggarwal has done DNA-related research that has the potential to cure cancer. Foreign universities have acknowledged her contribution.

The third day of the convention was dedicated to invited lectures and poster presentations. Akhilesh Verma delivered a lecture on organic chemistry; while Dalip Kumar of BITS-Pilani; Vibha Tandan from JNU-Delhi, Neelu Chauhan from Kota; Nirmala from Steve Biklo campus, Durban, South Africa; Jagdish Prasad; AK Sirivastava, RK. Sharma, and Raj Ranjan Jha from Ranchi University presented their papers.

Host department chairman A Paul said registrar KC Relhan had been chief guest at a cultural programme on Wednesday.
