Of the seven, one has been fielded by the Bhartiya Mukti Party, while the other six are independent candidates. Bishnoi, the sitting MP, will be up against 40 other candidates.

During the bypoll to the Hisar Lok Sabha seat in 2011, four candidates by the name of Kuldeep were in the fray, apart from Bishnoi.

The number of his opponents has also increased to 40 this time, against 39, three years back.

Three candidates — Chander Prakash (Sarvjan Samaj Party), Raj Kamal and Surender (both Independents) — withdrew their nomination, said district returning officer ML Kaushik.

Bishnoi’s main opponents are Dushyant Chautala (INLD), grandson of party chief Om Parkash Chautala; Sampat Singh (Congress), Phool Singh ( CPM), Mang e Ram ( BSP) and former IAS officer Yudhvir Singh Khyalia (Aam Aadmi Party). In 2011, Kuldeep had defeated his nearest rival and Dushyant’s father Ajay Chautala, who is presently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with the JBT teachers’ scam, by 6,335 votes.
