Liquor smuggler fires at police, arrested

Police claimed to have arrested a liquor smuggler, identified as Lalit Kumar, while fleeing his house at Raj Avenue towards the GT Road, New Chheharta. The smuggler, as per police, fired at a police team when he was signalled to stop at a check post near Khandwala Chowk on Wednesday.

ADCP 2 Ketan Patil said after the arrest, the accused took them to a pear orchard, where he had buried a .32 bore pistol used for firing on the police party on Wednesday.

A case under section 307 of the arms act and sections 61, 1, 14 of the Excise Act has already been registered against him and two unidentified persons at Chheharta Police Station on the complaint of ASI Balwinder Singh, of Chheharta Police Station, who was on duty, in this regard.
