Addressing a political conference of his party during the Shaheedi Jor Mela, Mann said Sikh activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had been fasting for the past 42 days to press the government for the release of detainees who had completed their jail term. He alleged that the SAD-BJP government had tried its best to scuttle Khalsa's hunger strike.
Mann opposed the union government's decision to release a stamp on former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, saying that the move had hurt sentiments of Sikhs. The SAD (A) president criticised Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for his government's move against Sikh farmers' families in that state.
