Police officials said that the deceased has been identified as Chandresh, 55, originally a resident of Bihar.

Chandresh had been staying at Gholi Khurad for the last 12 years and was working as a watchman at a fish pond in the village.

Jaswinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Nihal Singh Wala police station, said that it is believed that Chandresh was attacked by heavy wooden sticks on his head.

Satish Sahni, contractor of the pond, informed the police that when he came to the pond on Sunday afternoon, he saw Chandresh's body in his room.

The post mortem was conducted at Dr Mathura Dass civil hospital here and the body was handed over to his close relatives.

"A case has been registered against unidentified people under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the statement of Suresh Sahni. However, we are still waiting for the autopsy report. Investigation is on," said the SHO.
