As per Aman's father Shiv Lal, who works in a factory, his son was reluctant to go with the accused when the latter had come to pick him from their house, but when Aman informed him on the phone, he (Shiv Lal) asked him to accompany Monu.

"When my son did not return till late, I rang up Monu but his phone was switched off. I searched for them everywhere but to no avail. The next day I informed the police", said Shiv Lal.

He revealed that the child was alone at home as his mother was away to their native place in Bihar.
On suspicion, the police rounded up Monu's family members who assured that in case they get to know about the whereabouts of their son, they would inform them.

Meanwhile on Sunday evening, someone tipped off the police that Monu was spotted at the railway station. A team immediately reached there and arrested him. Coincidently, almost at the same time, some women noticed a decomposed body in the fields in Purhiran area, a few kilometres from Bhim Nagar, which was identified as that of Aman. It was taken to the civil hospital where a post mortem was conducted on Monday.

On the basis of the medical report, Model Town police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

DSP (city) Digvijay Kapil claimed that the accused had admitted to the crime.
