Five days after a 23-year-old man went missing from Siar village, he was found murdered near Butahari village on Thursday. The body bore several injuries inflicted by sharp-edged weapons.

The victim, Gurpreet Singh, a Class-12 pass-out, had gone to play volleyball with his friends on October 18, but never returned. After futilely looking for him, his family filed a missing person complaint at Malaut police station.
Thereafter, Gurpreet's father Sewa Singh went to various gurdwaras to make announcement for his missing son. On Diwali evening, he was on his way to Butahari village to make announcement, when he spotted a body lying near the canal. When he went closer, he was shocked to see his son lying dead.
He raised an alarm and sounded the Dehlon police, who reached the spot and initiated investigation.
The police have registered a case of murder against unidentified accused following the statement of Sewa Singh.
Sub-inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, station house officer (SHO) at Dehlon police station, said as the body was decomposed, it was suspected that Gurpreet was killed the same day he went missing, adding that the police were working on different theories behind the murder, and hoped to solve the case soon.
